Autobiography
In his Stories of Other Worlds, Colin Everard introduces us to the concept that we usually ‘feel’ that we live and function in our particular ‘World’.
In his wonderful collection of short stories, he tells us about other ‘Worlds’. His Stories are disparate; although, without exception, they are authoritatively informative, and sometimes they are inevitably dramatic. From desert locust plagues in the Horn of Africa, to the Indian Caste System, to skiing in ‘Heaven’, his range of knowledge and vision seems limitless. But however incredible the circumstances in which he finds himself, his feet remain firmly on the ground, down to earth.
Here's what readers have to say about this book....
These tightly written stories tell of other worlds, but worlds of which the author has direct experience. I chose to read this book to gain an insight into a time when change sweeping across the world was gradually gaining pace, to where we are now - seeing the old world order completely shaken up in breathless speed. Everard describes personal experiences from a working life criss-crossing Africa and Asia to Europe where he now lives in Vienna, Austria. Personal anecdotes from meeting heads of government and senior aviation officials to seeking to unravel the truths of love and marriage, and the Indian caste system, make this book an excellent read for anyone interested in people, travel, history, geography and how to make things happen from tackling locust plagues in East African to building airports in Nepal.
I've just finished this book and I love it! The author masterfully knows how to convey information about countries and politics in an accessible and interesting way. The descriptions of people and the love shown to them are particularly moving. It is impressive how difficult situations are transformed into positive experiences and valuable lessons. I enjoyed this book a lot and I can only recommend it.
