Autobiography
In turn bleak, tender and darkly funny, Clare Dempsey’s debut memoir takes us inside the Intensive Care Unit during the Covid outbreak. As nurses are deployed from every corner of the hospital, she sharply captures the fragility of these desperate few months: the quirks of her patients; the chaos on the wards; her waning sanity; and the glimmers of light that occasionally strike through the darkest of times.
Here's what readers have to say about this book....
This was an entertaining, uplifting and very personal first book by Clare Dempsey. The author takes you through the turbulent and uncertain times of Covid with great honesty from her privileged perspective as a nurse in the NHS. There are many laugh-out-loud anecdotes as well as, sadly, the very real consequences of an overstretched health service dealing rather heroically with the pandemic. I very much recommend this book and look forward to any future work by this talented young writer.
