Historical
Justus Pilate is exiled in Parthia, his once favoured family all but destroyed by forces in the shadows of Imperial Rome. To say nothing of the love of his life who died a hero’s death. Or so he thought. And the keys to his freedom? They are a curse he dare not use.
Until, one day, a message comes that forces his hand. Justus’s brother Cassius lives! However, he soon discovers Cassius is not the man he once was. His path has turned to blind vengeance, his rage a winnowing fan at the embers of a new faith. A faith destined to cover the world, but not without bloodshed. The haruspex has seen it. Save Cassius does not believe in destiny, much less that he has a role to play in a much bigger game than he realises…
Here's what readers have to say about this book....
I have just finished the second book in this series, The Binds of Faith, and this fast-paced story still keeps you turning the pages from the beginning to the end. The characters, historic and fictitious, navigate a dangerous Roman world of intrigue and duplicity, but also friendship and hope, all within a background of life in a time of Roman imperialist expansion and the fragile beginnings of a new religion. You feel you are with them on land and sea at a time when history is being made. You can taste the salt in the air, smell the smoke, and hear the laughs and the screams. This interweave of fact and fiction is utterly believable. The heroes and villains are human, frailties and all. Life has twists and turns you don’t expect. For those who like historical action stories this one is for you. It will become a classic and will make a brilliant epic film, and you will have read it first.
