Troubador's Senior Management Team Training and Team Building in Perpignan
To foster innovation and strategic growth, Troubador's senior management team recently participated in a training visit to Perpignan, located on the French/Spanish border. The aim was to upskill the established senior team as well as those more recently promoted to senior positions. The business objective was to engage in high-level strategic thinking, build the team and draw up the next set of business priorities for the Troubador Group.
For five days, directors and department heads engaged in a series of activities designed to challenge their perspectives and enhance team cohesion. The program included diverse exercises, such as sketching and watercolour painting in Perpignan's bustling centre, which, despite initial hesitations, proved to be a popular and enlightening experience that helped us practice patience and perseverance. The team also braved the elements for a thrilling quad biking adventure in the nearby mountains, a challenge in resilience and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
During the visit, the team participated in workshops and presentation sessions where department heads raised and examined critical topics such as creative ways to develop book sales, how we can prioritise growth, developing bigger and better author services, and expanding our distribution opportunities. These discussions were pivotal in crafting a robust twelve-month plan and establishing a clear roadmap for the company’s continued growth.
A key highlight of the trip was visiting three businesses – a large producer, a start-up, and a family-run company. These visits provided valuable insights into different corporate challenges, particularly in sustainability. Observing how these companies manage energy consumption, waste, and recyclability offered practical lessons that resonated with Troubador's own sustainability goals.
The small, family-run business particularly resonated with Troubador's ethos of delivering excellent customer service and creating a superior customer experience. The visits underscored the importance of diversification and maintaining a passion for one's work, principles that are central to Troubador’s mission.
Reflecting on the trip, the management team drew parallels to their last pre-Covid excursion in September 2019, which had been instrumental in generating ideas that propelled the company forward. The recent trip to Perpignan has once again equipped the senior team with fresh insights and strategies to implement in the coming months, reaffirming the significant value of these strategic retreats.
The majority of our leadership team has joined the company at a junior level and progressed to take leadership roles. Trips such as this extract them briefly from helping their teams excel in their work and bring them together for shared learning. They also allow us all to learn from our own journeys' from team members to team leaders. The Troubador senior team returned invigorated, with renewed focus and a wealth of ideas to drive the company’s future success.
