Ramsey’s Rules is a wholesale reconsideration of Alf Ramsey’s innovative and insightful approach to coaching which traces his journey in football as both a player and manager. At its core is an exploration of the know-how Ramsey used to fine tune England into a team capable of being world champions. This wisdom is presented by detailing Ramsey’s individual principles. These are introduced with accessible one-line synopses and then probed in depth to bring their significance to light.
Covering all aspects of the game, this study highlights that today’s leading managers still use the same understanding of the game that Ramsey developed back in the 1960’s. Together this body of knowledge forms a still relevant approach to coaching or, perhaps more germanely, a handy fan guide to insights into why high-level football is played the way it is.
Although very different in approach, this book takes inspiration from Harvey Pinock’s 'Little Red Book'.
