Biography
This story has everything: a beautiful intelligent young woman and her handsome married lover; elopement and scandal, riches and poverty, fame followed by ill health and obscurity.
Told in three parts, this collection of letters throws light on her early years as well as the years between the publication of her last novel in 1941 and her death in 1970. Little is known about the effect her worsening mental health during these years had on her relationship with her only son: this hitherto unseen correspondence adds valuable context to those who have enjoyed her many books.
