I studied English at Nottingham University as a mature student. Having gained a degree, I found freelance work with magazines. Having stories, articles and copywriting published gave me the confidence to continue developing my ideas for fiction.
WOOD Taller, Older, Wiser is the result of one of those ideas: A breathing partnership between a boy and a tree. What sort of boy would that be? (A reluctant one). What sort of tree? (An honest oak).
Humour tends to creep into my writing even when I’m not expecting it to. I welcome a quirky word, intriguing name or interesting phrase. If a heartwarming scene turns up, all the better. WOOD is aimed at children in middle grade (sadly 6-96 isn’t a category option). Trees grow alongside us all our lives, before and beyond, but it’s easy to take them for granted. Patrick Wood doesn’t.
