I have always been writing ever since I learnt to spell. I had to do it while staying in bed at home for three months after breaking my right leg during the first week in reception. To kill the endless hours spent on my own, I invented stories and thought up more stories, and wrote them up with my left hand. But then, my right leg finally healed, and all I had left was to return to school which pretty much put a stop to my creative writing for many years. For a time, I wrote academic articles, and then wrote and edited news and features at the BBC before becoming an academic again. It was right then that my left hand rebelled and demanded writing poetry, short stories, children's books and scripts, and this time I could not desist.
