Louise Peregrina was born in Folkestone, Kent, where throughout her childhood she lived opposite a library. She was an avid reader and would visit the library every day after school to change her books, especially enjoying Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Secret Seven Series, although her absolute favourite book was Heidi. After leaving school Louise spent a couple of years in Spain before returning to Folkestone where she has lived ever since. She spent most of her working life in different roles within education, including School Counsellor, Education Welfare Officer Specialising in Behaviour, and Children's Advocate for Special Needs. Louise is now retired. Since retiring she has taken up painting, has become a local radio presenter, sings in a choir and is learning to jive, proving that you are never too old to try new things. Louise has always enjoyed writing, mainly poems and travel logs from the various places that she has visited, but it is only now that she has had enough time to write this, her first full length novel. Gramps and the Shield Bugs draws extensively on her experience of working with children and young people, and also from being a grandmother of 7, and will likely appeal to grandparents as much as it will to children. Louise has also written several short stories, two of which are published in local anthologies Out of Cinque and Journeys by the Sea. She won a writing competition with her short story, Time and Motion, which has been recorded by an actor and is included in the Folkestone StoryMap https://folkestonestorymap.co.uk/time-and-motion-by-louise-peregrina/.
