I was born and grew up in Derry N. Ireland. I worked in the civil service before my marriage to Ryszard in 1961. In 1980 we moved to Hong Kong where I worked as an English teacher. After retirement in 1992, Ryszard started making recordings of the story of his Polish familys deportation to north Kazakhstan on 12 April 1940 in the Soviet ethnic cleansing programme of the Eastern Borderlands of Poland.
He recalled his mothers forced labour on the railway lines during the winter of 1942 and the subsequent escape to freedom through Uzbekistan, across the Caspian Sea to Persia (Iran), Palestine and eventually England in 1947.
