Alan D.M. Garner was born and raised in South Yorkshire. To an extent, Causes of Consequences, his debut novel, is inspired by his childhood but also his travels and experiences which is most felt in the setting. Alan's family worked in coal mining, but he chose a different path due to the industry's decline. Initially persuing a career in the army, he subsequently attended university and worked in the field of education. Having travelled extensively across Africa, he was honoured with an MBE for services to Sierra Leone. After spending eight years living in the Middle East, he now resides and writes in the East Midlands.
