What is our illustration service?
This service aims to pair authors with illustrations that meet the vision authors have of their beautiful books. The Troubador team will work directly with you to ensure that we understand your vision and what you are trying to achieve, and we’ll then do the heavy lifting when it comes to working with the illustrator, eventually providing the images to the author with full copyright.
Why use our service?
Avoid having to source illustrators
This process is time-consuming and tricky to get started. Authors who have not had illustrations commissioned before won’t know where to begin, and our network gives you a headstart on getting your illustrations created.
Own the copyright to your illustrations
While illustrators often want to retain the copyright for their images when working with authors directly, we have agreed with our network that this will not be the case for those taking our illustration service. Authors who work with us on their illustrations retain full copyright of the final illustrations.
Guaranteed quality, original creation
We make sure that the illustrators we have in our network are of the highest quality in the styles in which they specialise. All our illustrators produce original work, and do not deploy artificial intellingence (AI) to create them.
What styles of illustrations can we create?
Our roster of illustrators have been carefully selected to give us as broad a range of illustration styles that we can produce as possible. Below are some examples of the styles that we can produce, but we can source an illustrator to meet almost any style an author would like.
How does it work?
We pride ourselves on the direct, accessible customer service that we give our authors when publishing their books with us, and the same principles apply for those for whom we are creating illustrations. The Troubador team works with you every step of the way to create perfect illustrations for your book. Below is a high level overview of the process we'll guide you through.
Initial consultation
We work with you to define what your requirements are and help you work out if we are suited to what you are looking for.
Briefing and style selection
A team member experienced in sourcing and commissioning illustrations will work directly with you to define what style of illustrations you are looking for, so that we can source a suitable illustrator.
Quoting and contract
We supply you with a quote to complete the work and, only once you are happy will we ask you to sign a contract and give the illustrator the green light to begin work.
First draft illustrations
The illustrator will produce rough drafts of illustrations to your detailed specification, which you can then review and amend if necessary.
Illustrations finalised
We work with you and the illustrator to edit the illustrations so they meet your original specifications.
Illustration approval and supply
Once you are completely happy with the final illustrations, we pass the final files over to you to use in your work.
