Young children
Alasdair and the Green Ring echoes the traditional folktale of a child being stolen by the fairies. But it is not your average re-telling…
While on holiday in Scotland, playing with his little sister Daisy, Alasdair suddenly finds himself alone. He is told by a kind fisherman that Daisy has been stolen by the fairies. To make matters worse, time has been frozen, and he is frighteningly cut off from those he loves in the everyday world.
It is up to Alasdair to find the fairy kingdom and bring his sister back. Scared but determined, he sets off on an unknown journey.
Will he be able to find her and protect her from danger on their long journey home?
Alasdair will face difficulties, failure, and sometimes tearful despair. But along the way, the friendly strangers he encounters will give him clues and help him when they can.
Alasdair must be brave and resourceful – he must find the strength to pick himself up and keep going if he has any chance of saving Daisy.
This is an imaginative story which children will enjoy whether being read to or reading it for themselves.
