From Tranmere Rovers to Tottenham Hotspur, Accrington Stanley to Arsenal, and Mansfield Town to Manchester United…
The 92 Club is known as the most exclusive club in football. It consists of fans who have visited all 92 league football grounds in England. But is it possible to visit them all in just one season? Could you manage the travel, the logistics, the ticketing – and what about the pies?!
Which club houses its away supporters in an area called The Cowshed? What team is known as the Ammies, the Gas, the Grecians and which club has a giraffe as a mascot? How much football trivia could you pick up along the way?
Join Robert Lee as he sets out on a rollercoaster of an adventure to watch a match at all 92 league clubs during the 2022-23 season. He watches Haaland’s first goal for Manchester City, Ronaldo’s last for United and Dean Lewington’s 735th match for MK Dons. Finally, as a devout Manchester City fan, Robert is in the crowd when, having won the Premier League and the FA Cup, they complete a unique treble by winning the Champions League.
Here's what readers have to say about this book....
Robert's book provides a great insight into the trials and tribulations of following football teams. No mater what league your team might be in there is always fun to be had. The author's challenge of visiting 92 grounds in a season clearly required extensive planning and research. Adding to the enjoyment of his visits and to the readers we are provided with snippets of local history around the grounds. An excellent read for all supporters of football league teams. There is something for everyone.
Robert Lee manages to visit All 92 Football League Clubs in one season (2022-23), while also seeing his lifelong dream fulfilled, with Manchester City completing The Treble. This makes for a rattling good read, capturing the experiences of a true football league odyssey, both on and off the pitch. Robert details the places, the people and the performances, sharing his discoveries of different regions, sights and footballing folklore. Humorously and knowledgeably written, with some great stories, this is a fun and easy read for anyone who loves the beautiful game.
The record time to watch a competitive match at each of the 92 football league grounds (189 days, apparently) was never under threat. Instead, we are taken by a thoughtful, observant football fanatic on an idiosyncratic tour of the country. Lee possesses the curiosity to explore each town and talk with local supporters, leaving us with not just a match report but with a flavour of the town and its history. Along the way, I was keen to find out more about Edith Cavell, 11 Rillington Place and HMS Trincomalee. Lee, a London resident and holder of a Senior Railcard, doesn't spare us details of the difficulty he experiences on the train in reaching and returning from the more remote grounds: LNER best but there's room for improvement at Arriva. Despite the addition to the title, the reader doesn't hear the braying of a Manchester City fan. Rather Lee appreciates being lucky enough to witness a remarkable season for his club though gives prominence to less-fashionable football clubs not fortunate enough to be sponsored by a wealthy state. Sympathetic and humourous, this book would be a good gift to any football fan.
