Synopsis

A Gripping, Faith-Honouring Historical Masterpiece! Set on the rugged Norfolk coast [The Sea Wolves of Spelthorpe], this atmospheric narrative seamlessly balances a timeless fight between good and evil with a powerful spiritual thread [The Sea Wolves of Spelthorpe]. What I loved most was how Clark beautifully explores the reality of virtuous Christian living amidst violent storylines of criminality, 18th-century justice, and righteous revenge. The brutal historical elements add immense authenticity to these violent times, yet the author still captures beautiful moments of hope through successful marriages, a steadfast commitment to faith, and unexpected moments of lightheartedness like 'skinny dipping.' The book is exceptionally well-researched. Clark is not afraid to quote Scripture at appropriate places, grounding the characters' choices perfectly. I was also deeply moved by how well the reality of death and the grieving process was handled—it was written with a remarkable, mature level of empathy. It delivers an immersive, faith-honoring, and profoundly uplifting reading experience from start to finish. Highly recommended it.

Absolutely lovely story. I really enjoyed the Spelthorpe trilogy so it made sense to read this as it is the prequel to the trilogy. This story is wonderful, as are the other books. I love the way Ashley Clark writes. His books are a great mix of wonderful characters, interesting stories and also include lots of history. You can tell that Ashley spends lots of time undertaking research into the period that he is writing about. Oh and there is also a little bit of sauciness in the books too!
