This is the second gripping instalment in the epic Bebb family Saga, set before the dark shadow of the American Civil War, against the ongoing headwinds of violence, slavery, and corruption.
It continues with Edward Bebb’s adventures and then follows his son, William’s, turbulent life as he soars from humble beginnings in the Welsh enclave of Paddy’s Run, Ohio. He carved a niche as a successful lawyer whilst climbing to the top of the greasy pole of state and national politics and being active in the Underground Railroad across both the North and the hostile South.
William found love but had to deal with much tragedy and conflict, where family loyalties were tested to the limit. He was determined to honour deathbed pledges to support more Welsh coming to America. This coincided with a titanic battle in court to determine his very own freedom.
Conflicted, he must decide whether to adhere to an unforgiving, stacked judicial system in Tennessee or ‘bend the law’ to achieve natural justice for the aggrieved Welsh settlers. Ultimately, this is a story of hope and adventure as William, continually stalked by death, treks west to Illinois in search of a new safe haven for the Bebb family.
