Recipes from a Gujarati Kitchen contains recipes that have been passed down to Taruna Chauhan from her mother, mother-in-law, and other family members.
For Taruna, food was an important part of growing up. Whenever her family had visitors, they never left without eating, and even as a low-income family, there was always food on the table.
Taruna’s love for food and cooking has never left her, and learning to cook at school gave her the skills to cook European foods, along with the Indian dishes she learnt from her mother.
She began writing after the passing of her mother, to capture in print the traditional recipes that have only been passed between her family orally, and so anyone who wants to learn to cook can give them a try.
Here's what readers have to say about this book....
What truly stands out in "Recipes From A Gujarati Kitchen" is the beautiful origin story of the author. Taruna Chauhan has lovingly captured the essence of her heritage, sharing not just recipes, but a deep personal connection that began in her mother's kitchen. Through this book, she passes down the warmth, flavors, and traditions she learned from her mom — turning each page into a tribute to generations of culinary wisdom. One of the most touching aspects of the book is how it invites readers into the vibrant cultural practices of Gujarat. From stories of Diwali celebrations to the everyday rituals that shape family life, Taruna doesn’t just share how to cook — she shares how to celebrate, remember, and connect. It’s amazing to think that she dedicated three years to crafting this book, ensuring that these time-honored recipes — many of which have been passed down for generations — are now available to a wider community. "Recipes From A Gujarati Kitchen" is more than a cookbook; it’s a generous offering of culture, memory, and love.
