Fantasy and Horror
Half-siblings, Bryony and Gavin, discover they have another sister, Yvaise, who introduces them to an alternative world of Logres, very much like Britain but 1500 years earlier.
Logres was the realm of Artúr. His people still mourn the loss of their beloved King, while his wife, Lady Gwenhyfwr, struggles to uphold his legacy of peace. Gwenhyfwr fears for the future of Logres and that her own leadership will be deficient as the alliances forged by her last husband begin to unravel.
Gwenhyfwr is convinced that only a people unified by their faith in the power of the Grail can withstand the coming onslaught. Critical to the continuation of Logres is the recovery of the Grail Items, first brought from the over-realm of Annwn by Artúr and hidden safely after his passing. The first to be regained is the Sacred Staff, which is rumoured to bestow eternal life on its bearer.
As the namesake of his grandfather, Gawain, Gavin is thought to be that bearer and attempts to recover the Staff from the wily Nineve, a sorceress. Nineve beguiles Gavin and turns him against his sisters, not least because Bryony is named Ymwadwr, a rare female warrior. Meanwhile Anna, Yvaise and Bryony’s mother, returns to her home-realm of Logres but is forced into hiding as Nineve seeks to use her against her daughters and Gavin. Nineve will pit the siblings against each other in order to achieve her ends and frustrate those of Gwenhyfwr.
