Crime and Thrillers
Northern Monkeys is the gritty, unfiltered story of working-class lads in Bradford, looking at football firms, addiction, loyalty and identity.
The gritty story of working-class lads in Bradford, at the heart of Northern Monkeys is The Ointment — a football firm built on pride and reputation. But behind the matchday clashes are deeper struggles: addiction, poverty, broken homes, love, revenge, and the fight to stay above water. As the firm rises, the police close in, determined to bring them down.
Some lads are just trying to escape their mundane lives. Others are chasing power and a reputation. And some just want a few beers, a laugh with their mates, and a bit of casual violence.
But what happens on the streets is only half the story.
Northern Monkeys goes beyond the terraces — deep into the lives, relationships and choices that shape these men when the crowds are gone, and the doors are shut.
A brutal, honest look at life on the edge, when the lines between good and bad start to blur — and then start to cross.
Here's what readers have to say about this book....
I have just finished reading this book and honestly I found it fascinating. When I started i wasn't sure if this was going to be my sort of book but honestly I couldn't put it down. The look into people's lives was amazing. I feel like I know every person in this book. Its real northern life with no holding back. I was hooked. The twist at the end. Wow. I cant wait for the next one to come out. I'm not a massive football fan but that didn't matter. It was funny, sad and exciting all in one. Thank you Dan. Keep them coming.
Just completed this book and it is so relatable to the football scene. Same problems, struggles, partying & crime but different people up & down the country. The part about the bod doing a history lesson in London got me! (Happens every time going football in London) Really well written and the ending was really smartly done with a bit of a twist. Look forward to the next one.
Northern Monkeys WOW Genuinely one of the best books I’ve read in a very, very long time. From start to finish I couldn’t put it down I read it in 24 hours flat. It has everything, and it’s relatable in so many ways, no matter who you are who u support For me, I could relate with the football side of the book to a degree & other parts of the book massively but honestly this goes far beyond football. Danny Wright has played an absolute blinder here real, raw, and brutally honest accounts of his story. We all know someone who’s been through what this book touches on. Trust me, once you start it, you won’t want to put it down. Can’t wait for the next book. Unbelievable work, Danny well done lad 👏💙
Took me 2 days to read this book I genuinely could not put it down it's absolutely brilliant, even if your not a bradford city fan you will find this a great read, can't wait for the follow up, we'll done an amazing read loved it 👍
