Biography
My mother, Gwenllian Hannah Rees, was born in South Wales in 1910 and died just two months short of her 105th birthday. How life, attitudes and beliefs changed during those years!
The book moves forwards and backwards through time, triggered by events, to create a continuity through the generations beginning with the strength and security of a mountain farmhouse, back in time to my grandmother and forwards again, following Gwenllian’s journey.
When I was a small child, my mother would always find time to tell me about her own childhood and young life. This continued throughout the years and our time together. About eighteen months before she died, she helped me chose the title of this then unwritten book.
Authenticity is one of the book’s important assets. All the events and happenings are completely true.
In an age where it can be difficult to discern between truth and fiction, this book, I hope, will open a door into ordinary lives lived by ordinary people in very different times.
