Martin Milton was formerly Professor of Counselling Psychology and currently maintains a small clinical practice in South West London. He is a writer, a photographer, a dog-dad, a cat-dad, husband, sibling, hiker, couch potato … and a lot more too.
Martin grew up in South Africa and spent time living in New York before returning to London, settling down and establishing his career as a psychologist. In all of these places, he found ways to connect with animals, whether it be pets, objects of study or those wild creatures that pass through our human settlements quietly and discretely. he has almost always had companion animals, has enjoyed riding, travelling to see a range of wild animals across Africa and loves sitting in his garden watching the Blue tits nesting and the Woodpeckers crafting the trees. He also watches his garden cameras avidly, to enjoy the foxes, squirrels, badgers and deer that visiting us.
As a psychologist, he has an extensive publication record with over a hundred academic/professional papers, four edited books and his own ‘The Personal is Political’. Part of his research has been looking at our relationship to the natural world and other animals and so he has published articles and chapters related to our relationship to nature. Beyond an academic focus he has also had several short stories published.
