David Gurney studied archaeology at Durham University and has worked in the heritage sector in Colchester, Kent, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk and in university administration. Heritage projects included the prehistoric timber circle known as "Seahenge", Roman forts, Roman burials, medieval castles, windmills, milestones, arboglyphs, World War Two defences and former RAF Coltishall. Previous books included many reports on a wide range of archaeological themes, mostly in the regional monograph East Anglian Archaeology. Since he inherited the manuscript of the Memoir of Archer Gurney in 2004 it has been an ongoing part-time project to bring it to publication. A Remarkable Clerical Career is David's first ebook and first book on a non-archaeological topic. The recent discovery of a further manuscript, this time of a play Alboin by Archer Gurney and probably the one and only work in his own hand to survive, may become another Archer-related project in the pipeline.
