Young children
Chloe Smart is five-years-old. Because five is a magical age, it is well known that exciting and unexpected things often happen, so when she receives a letter from a small, green, china donkey, she is not in the least bit surprised. As you may have already guessed, this was no ordinary donkey...This was ‘The Green China Donkey’ - friend to fairies, elves and a variety of tiny, woodland folk. In time, this mystical donkey introduces Chloe to a wonderful world of fairy gardens, winter palaces and Christmas enchantment. As the weeks pass, Chloe becomes acquainted with other curious creatures who also send her letters and entertain her with details of their lives and various squabbles.
There's Bella, a pinky-grey, soapstone elephant, who is always in a pickle and forever having to be hauled out of trouble by her exasperated friends. As Chloe soon finds out, Bella never seems to learn from her mistakes, but tumbles effortlessly from one ghastly mishap straight into another one!
Chloe’s third pen-friend is Mitten the Squitten (half squirrel, half kitten who lives in an ash tree that's tidy and trash-free.) Mitten is a very well known and successful private detective, who has solved many awkward cases.
He, and Chloe’s other new-found friends, are soon caught up in solving the alarming case of The Fairy Garden and who has trashed it! Can they discover who the culprits are and rescue the garden from its poor state?
With a unique part-prose, part-poetry structure, The Great Fairy Save is wonderfully illustrated by the author's granddaughter and will be enjoyed by 5 - 7 year olds.
