Hello I'm Jenny Hussein, and my career as a History Teacher in UK secondary schools has shaped my love for storytelling and sharing cultures with young people. My journey with Semi & Podge at the Siena Palio began during the years I spent living in the Italian contryside, where I shared a restored farmhouse with my two wonderful tabby cats, Semi and Podge, who travelled with me from the UK. They were such loyal companions, each with their own personality, and they soon became the inspiration for this story. I wanted to capture their spirited ways, and responses to life's adventures, so they could live on as characters for children to enjoy.
Italy has always held a special place in my heart. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to live with an Italian family as an au pair, and those experiences left a lasting impression. I've travelled to many countries, but Italy's history, landscapes and warm culture continue to inspire me, and I try to share that appreciation with readers. Through my books, I hope to bring young readers a sense of adventure, humour and curiosty about the world around them.
